50 Restaurants and Counting – Breathe Free Marks Three Years of Increasing Access to Healthy Air

Three years ago we reached a tipping point – residents had had enough.  They came to us and said:     Help! We can’t enjoy dinner, a glass of wine or walking the Avenue without having to breathe unhealthy, smelly smoke.

They weren’t alone. Did You Know?  Only 10.3% of Winter Park residents smoke – and only 7.3% of Maitland residents do.  Nationwide, the rate is just over 16%. There is no safe level of exposure to second-hand smoke.

So, with resident, restaurant and business community collaboration, we launched Breathe Free Winter Park in April 2014.  Breathe Free expanded to Maitland and Orlando last year and today approximately 50 restaurants have voluntarily banned smoking on their outdoor dining patios. The movement is growing. Just a few of these fine restaurants include:

  • Ravenous Pig
  • Outback Steakhouse
  • Dexter’s
  • Barnie’s CoffeeKitchen
  • Cocina 214
  • 4 Rivers and The Coop
  • Bosphorous
  • Brio’s
  • Luke’s in Maitland
  • Antonio’s in Maitland
  • And many more

Our vision is to be the healthiest community in the nation.  Help us get there.  When someone lights up,speak up.  Let the manager know that you prefer smoke-free patio dining.
