Even with rain threatening, nearly 500 walkers joined in the new tradition and “dance-walked” their way through Winter Park on Saturday morning. And once again Eatonville came away the winner by bringing more walkers than any other community. For doing so, they collect the $2,500 prize – and the 2013 title for the 2nd Annual Mayors’ Sole Challenge!
Joining in the fun was Bo Outlaw, Magic dancers, 95-year-old Ms. Dinkins and lots of happy children and adults, dancing their way through the streets. Waving to neighbors, golfers and people along the way, the crowd spread smiles and got curious looks and several “thumbs ups” from passers-by.
“It was so much fun seeing so many happy people, smiling and having fun,” said Derricka White, one of the volunteers. What was not to smile about? The weather held out, the bike blender made delicious smoothies and everyone got to dance, exercise, and as Mayor Mount of Eatonville reminded the crowd, “We get to enjoy fellowship and get healthy!”
And that’s what Healthy Central Florida is all about – helping people get active, eat healthy and be happy. On Saturday, Nov. 16th, our communities took one more (dance) step toward making our communities the healthiest in the nation!
If you missed out, it’s not too late to join us for the Walk90 Challenge. It’s free and offers fun and GREAT prizes, including a free one-year membership to the RDV Sportsplex. Click the sidebar to the right to sign up.
