“Hiking, weight lifting and…just working out,” those are some of Mercedes’s (pictured right) favorite ways to get steps and activity. Mercedes is a recent weekly winner of the Move60 Challenge. She learned about the Challenge from RDV Sportsplex, where she enjoys weight-lifting and other fitness classes. In addition to the 1,516 individuals like Mercedes, who participated, we also had 124 teams in the fall Move60 Challenge.
One team, that has now participated in almost all of Healthy Central Florida’s Challenges is First United Methodist Church (FUMC) in Winter Park. “It is great to move as part of caring for the body,” said Sarah Skidmore, a Move60 Team member and staffer from FUMC. She added, “Documenting it [activity] adds an element of competition and self awareness that encourages more activity.”
Teams from two or three members up to nearly 70, like the one from TLC Engineering competed and walked, rode, ran and danced their way to better health and more fun and camaraderie. With the Challenge now in the history books, we’re busy analyzing steps and getting ready to announce the winners.
- School Winner – $400
- Faith Community Winner – $400
- Corporate Winner – Breakfast for up to 20, goodies for all and a half page in the WP Maitland Observer recognizing their win
- Spirit Award Winner – a special prize for this special team that showed the most spirit (a special team outing valued at $400)
Stay tuned. Winners will be annouced the week of December 4th!
Also, please mark your calendars. The Spring Move60 Challenge is coming in March! It will run from March 1 – April 29. Enjoy your break and get ready to go again.
Congratulations to all 1,516 who registered and finished the fall Challenge and very special thanks to Florida Blue. Without their sponsorship, the Move60 Challenge wouldn’t be possible. Thanks also to Smoothie King, Club Pilates, the bar method, CYCLEBAR of Winter Park, Crossfit Winter Park, and Orangetheory Fitness of WP.
Thanks also to our awesome partners in all things health, the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce, Winter Park Public Library, Track Shack, RDV Sportsplex, Maitland Public Library and Healthy Eatonville Place.
