Our challenge is clear.
Today, Healthy Central Florida is releasing the State of Our Health, an in-depth study of physical, emotional and nutritional health in Eatonville, Maitland and Winter Park. While it contains bright spots, the report also documents the extent of our local obesity crisis and the resulting chronic-disease epidemic we now face.
And it reveals alarming health disparities in our communities that must be addressed.
The State of Our Health survey, conducted by the University of Central Florida Institute for Social and Behavioral Sciences, is a call to action for our cities — and for all our Central Florida neighbors.
It shows more than half our residents are overweight or obese; a third or more have high blood pressure; and about one in four has high cholesterol.
