With 1,516 participants and 124 teams participating in the Fall Move60 Challenge, the MOVEMENT to become the healthiest community in the nation is growing – literally. “This was our biggest, best challenge yet,” said Jill Hamilton Buss, executive director of Healthy Central Florida. “We had schools, churches, hospitals, and dozens of workplace teams. Though always friendly, some teams took this competition seriously and really pushed their members to step it up!”
The 60-day free, fun activity challenge was designed by Healthy Central Florida to get people out and moving. Turn off the TV or the computer and walk, bike, run, swim – just move. And it worked! One participant, a local realtor with Keller Williams, Sue Gilman, said, “I thought Move60 would be fun, but found it be more motivating than anything else. It definitely made me move more!” (Sue is pictured with her bike on SunRail at right)
Improved health was the best prize of all, but Healthy Central Florida sweetened the deal with individual and team prizes – from Fitbits, restaurant gift certificates and movie passes to public recognition and team lunches for groups, HCF is proud of all the participants and partners for a great community effort with outstanding results – a total of 402,133,771 total steps walked, which is equivalent to 8.1 trips around the Earth!
Congratulations to these winners and all our 2017 fall participants:
Trader Joe’s (Nearly 24 million steps)
Trader Joe’s won with the most employees signed up and remaining active and logging steps/activities for the full 60 days. They will be featured in a half-page ad and enjoy a catered lunch for 20 people, plus chair massage and other goodies. Congrats Trader Joe’s and thanks for being an awesome partner!
Honorable Mention – Career Source (Nearly 12 million steps)
Career Source was a very, close second to Trader Joe’s with more than 60 employees signed up and a large percentage remaining active throughout. Thank you to Jerry, who has been awesome and to the entire team. (Go Career Source – great job!)
Faith Community Prize
First United Methodist Church outpaced all other faith community groups in participants and activities with the most walkers signed up and actively posting. They win $400 for their organization.
Winter Park High School
Winter Park High School had 161 participants (the most of any team!) and the majority stayed very active right to the end. Kudos to the Wildcats and thanks for being a healthy role model for students and parents. Winter Park High School wins $400!
Glenridge Middle School (pictured above in collage at right)
Congratulations to GMS – Wow! Students produced videos of themselves being active – playing volleyball, skateboarding, playing basketball, sliding, in parks…having fun at the beach and they participated in International Walk to School Day. Quite simply, they went all out. Special thanks to Asst. Principal, Diane Carter, and to Healthy School Team Leader, Alison Hannon. Great job Glenridge! They win a fun, healthy outing valued at $400.
Once again – VERY special thanks to Florida Blue! Without their generous support – we could not have offered as many t-shirts, prizes, Fitbits and fun. Go Florida Blue!
Very special thanks to our partners – they graciously and generously stepped up to partner on the Move60 by acting as satellite distribution centers for t-shirts and pedometers. They used valuable and limited staff time to support our community in getting healthy – thank you to:
