EATONVILLE — A new study out Tuesday will show one in four residents in the town of Eatonville has diabetes.
The group Healthy Central Florida says the rate of diabetes in the historically black town is triple the rate in neighboring Maitland and Winter Park, and double the national average.
As it stands, African Americans in the US are twice as likely as white people to be diagnosed with diabetes, according to the US Office of Minority Health. They are also more likely to suffer from the complications from the disease, including foot and leg amputations.
